As far back as I can remember, I was an avid nail-biter. I know the feeling of self-loathing which accompanies a day of nail biting, and the all too familiar pain in my fingertips when my skin would become the victim of my habit too. It has taken me many years to perfect a method which actually works for me. I have tried the bitter nails and I am no stranger to gel and acrylic nails, but once I stop using these products and nail enhancements, my fingers go straight back into my mouth.
As some of you may know, I had decided to go Paleo for a month. Initially, I just wanted to try it out – see what the hype was all about. I will admit that I was definitely surprised at how challenging it was for me as well as how how well my body took to the change in diet.
I had done through research into the Paleo diet before beginning this journey and I had thought that I understood it completely. However, as I went about it, I realized that there were many grey areas which were not clearly defined. I would very often find myself googling things to find out whether they’re Paleo or not; and after a while, this becomes a tedious chore.
This quiche was one of my childhood favorites which my mom would make on special occasions. Rather fitting I think considering that her name too was Lorraine. One adjustment which I have made was to add spinach which isn’t exactly a traditional addition to a quiche Lorraine. However, you could leave this ingredient out if you wish, it is not a critical addition. This recipe fills a 20 x 20 cm dish.
A few nights ago my dad made a very special request for dinner which he hardly does. He asked me to make chicken curry. Now, I must admit that I was extremely apprehensive about it because I had never made chicken curry before. And so I did what any clueless person would: I Googled a recipe. There were so many variants with ingredients such as yogurt and coconut milk which I do not recall my mom using when she made chicken curry. Eventually, I found some similarities in the recipes and came up with my own little recipe which turned out to be really tasty. This recipe took about 40 minutes in total (because I cheated and popped the potatoes into the microwave to soften a bit first).
Although water is great for many reasons, I particularly need it for once specific reason: dry skin. Now that winter is in full force here in Cape Town, my dry skin has become worse than ever before. I have read on multiple articles, nooks and crannies on the internet that water is good for hydrating skin (a no brainer, right?).
I never really fancied myself a wine person, but as I became older, I started liking it. Now I know that the concept of wine can be rather daunting and complicated for some and you can look like a down right idiot if you don’t know what you are talking about so hopefully this offers a bit of guidance.
